Hi,

You can find all TOS versions in English but not in other languages like Spanish.
I have already TOS 1.04, TOS 1.6, TOS 1.62, TOS 2.05 and TOS 3.05 (TOS 4.04 is multilanguage) in spanish.
The problem is that I have an spanish Mega STE and spanish TT with TOS 2.05 and 3.05 respectively. I would like to have TOS 2.06 and 3.06 in spanish, but they can't be found (to be more precise...I haven't found them).

So, the question is:

Can I edit a UK TOS version and translate it to spanish? taking the language from previous version. I mean, take language from spanish TOS 3.05 and TOS 2.05 and replace UK language on TOS 2.06 and TOS 3.06 to make them spanish.

Is there a guide to know which parts I have to replace with the HEX editor?

Is it too complicated to do it?

thank you.

It is not much complicated. Tho whole science is to be careful, and not overwrite 0 terminator of text parts in TOS.  If new message is shorter, then just terminate it with usual 0. Some bytes of org. txt, will be after it, what harms not.  Of course, you need to know little language which want to replace - to be sure that will replace with correct message/txt .
Having Spanish TOS .2.05 is of course good help - but be careful, maybe some messages changed order.

Best would be if someone who knows Spanish and German do it.

My girlfriend does  ;)

And where I can find information about where to locate the text parts to replace?

I can try but I don't know where to begin.
I need to know positions where the text is stored.

This is part what you need to do yourself - txt. locations vary in every TOS version, and even by same TOS v. by different lang. versions they are little different. But locations are close - differences are there exactly because different lengths of messages.

It is not hard at all with good hex editor.  I did all it some 20 years ago on Atari ST self.  Now you can do it on bigger screen, in higher res.  256KB is not big size, you can list it slowly, and will see all txt easily . Can see with usual editors almost 1KB at once, so only 250-300 screens to look .  Editing will take more time for sure.
First txt is WARNING: BAD ROM CRC ...  and you don't need  to translate it - in German TOS it is in English.
Then long pause, then some fun at relative address $F100 - no need to translate  :)
Then very long pause until  $35700 ...
Most of txt is in Desktop and AES, at ROM end, of course.
Before burning EPROMs, you better test it in Steem .
