Title: Future Game Adaptions Suggestions Thread
Post by: complicated on 12-03-2023, 19:08:24
I thought it would be fun to make a thread about suggesting good games that not yet been adapted. Most quality titles are already done but perhaps we can find a few gems not yet done?

I know atm atleast 1 quality game not yet adapted and that is:

Judge Dredd:

http://www.atarimania.com/game-atari-st-judge-dredd_9700.html

The Atarimania files seems fine after some testing, can also use this cheat to jump the levels for testing:

*** Judge Dredd Cheat ***

In terminal enter: BRUCKEN PLAYING HERO QUEST

Type: EXIT

When game starts push "HELP" for level skip.

I DL-et it from atarimania couple years ago, and looked in . Special format, so needs more time. I will deal with it, not right now, couple weeks later.

Links pointing to STX images made from my own originals and should be perfect without bad or fuzzy sectors, except from copy protections ofc.

Night Raider is same as Dive Bomber, what is on my site, ready to DL .
Really need to put that aka list on some good visible place.

Hound of Shadow:  started with it few years ago, then it went on wait list.

NARC: will see to do it soon. Did not look as some chear up game for me :-)

I will look it up better next time since there is quite a few games with different names.

Hound of Shadow seems complicated cause it needs a character disk at startup, haven`t got i to work in Steem.

NARC, perhaps not the coolest game on the planet but still an Ocean quality game which deserves a HD adaption imo.

Steve Davis World Snooker:

https://drive.google.com/file/d/1llUGcSkLOLtREOZAhDvx0TrYLsaqwuYP

Good snooker game, not even close to Jimmy White Snooker ofc but still quite nice. Perfect STX image from my personal original. Game crashes with 4MB installed, i`ve heard of something called the 4MB bug?

Chess Simulator:

Uses the same engine as Chess Player 2150 (already adapted) but with different graphics. It also has 2 program files, one for english and one for french. I personally like this version more than CP2150.

STX from my personal original.

At moment I hate it :-)  It has some bugs right at beginning: crash with 4 MB RAM. Bad IKBD control code, combined with bad XBIOS $19 usage - they had no good literature, DOCs ..
So, it needs first some fixes, then can go on solving all those character creation, scenery disk swap problems ...
Title: Re: Future Game Adaptions Suggestions Thread
Post by: Petari on 27-03-2023, 17:59:39
I spent more time with Hound of Shadow. It is just not well made. Creating character is way too long, need to pass plenty of screens with some skill settings .
Better is to start game with scenery disk (B), and play with predefined character.
So, if I will deal with this at all it will be starting scenery disk files.  With possible option to run character creation as separate program, what will save to character disk, and then will need to exit and run scenery disk launcher.
I already fixed IKBD code - well partially, as it is total mess. Does not work well under all TOS versions, and even RAM size matters . Fortunately my TOS 1.04 in RAM will solve those problems. Will need 2 MB RAM.
Game works from floppy with 512 KB RAM, but user needs to make mouse cursor (hand) working by some yank :-)
I went over plenty of games, and never seen so much silly things.

Can I suggest the English version of Crystals of Arborea?

You have already done (https://atari.8bitchip.info/SCRSH/arbotarg.html) a French version (thanks) but my French is terrible. Of the 4 languages of this game I think English would be the most widely accessable.

The PaSTi copy protected disk image is available here :

http://www.atarimania.com/game-atari-st-crystals-of-arborea_24774.html

RPG games are my favourite and I've never played this title. The reviews were mixed but I would like to give it a go on my MegaSTe

Good news - almost finished. Copy prot deactivated, gamex code added (state saves and exit to Desktop). So, I think tomorrow will be ready for Atari folks :-)

Outrun STE enhanced edition

Can be found in Atarimania

https://www.atarimania.com/game-atari-st-out-run-ste_35456.html

There are long time loading from floppy each stage is finished, a hard disk adapted version will have faster or minimal loading times.

Sorry if this has been asked or if it's already done, but
did you ever convert the RPG "Disciples of Steel".

I'm thinking you did and I think there was an issue with
a crash at one point in the game itself. I couldn't seem
to find it listed on the adapted games download page.

Thanks.

I checked it, and those delays are more because of used depacking than floppy loading slowness. Surely can be solved to use unpacked data, and with today storage capacities it means nothing bad. It just may need lot of time to find and understand how depacking works and change it, including whole files location/size data of game.

It is in later game compilations image for SD cards. I did not add it, and many others to individual game downloads table page from multiple reasons - low feedback, not listening what I write there and not to mention all cretenic writings on forums - like my adapts cause failure of UltraSatan, data loss and like ...
Nobody was even criticized because such bullshit (without any proof, without any real possibility that some SW may cause HW damage. Data loss may happen by some very bad SW, but chances that it is because bad coding are extremely minimal as there are some protections in low level disk access code, even in TOS .
And I will say what are the real reasons for now more and more HW failures:
In case of Atari ST family original machines:  their age.  In case of UltraSatan and other new HW - lower quality of newer chips, component in later years. And lower quality is present in almost everything manufactured lately. 'Brave new World' - be brave and try our magnificent product . If it not last long, there is chance to try our next product soon - isn't it nice ?
