Hello. I'm trying to play the King's Quest II patch on my Mega STe.
Is there a way to save / restore a game? When I press F3 to save it tells me "this is the wrong disk".
Same with F5 to restore a game. I can INIT DISK and make a save floppy, but that is about all.
Thanks.

This is one of those where ingame save/load function is not translated to hard disk. You still can save and load gamestate via gamex - in this case key, F9 and supplied utility.   I will look to update it later ...

Thanks.

On my MSTE I have only the last hdd driver you sent me and the system control panel app loaded.
Gamex says I need to free up memory for it to work. Not sure how I could load any less.

I'll wait for the updated version in the mean time. Thanks again!

If game works, then free memory is OK.  Gamex util may be little too demanding in this. In any case, issue with save/restore is not because of it.
I don't know how much RAM that Control Panel takes. Combined with TOS 2.06, which takes most RAM from all ST(E) TOS-es, it may be on the edge for Gamex.  You can not decrease my hard disk driver's RAM usage - it is on min by default.

Bump. Not to be a pain, but to say I'm looking forward to this working properly. :)

Well, it was pain in   to dig in code made by C-compiler and fix all those lame routines for floppy insert, change ...
Get at usual place.  I expect detailed feedback - about my work, not how game is done.   And it is time to do something with that Son Shu Shi - years passed, and nobody can find good copy of it. Time for action ! New Jersey people likes action  :)

We also like pizza... and girls with huge knockers.

Thanks so much. I will devote some time to playing through the game very soon! I just loaded it up quickly on my Mega STe and while the save / restore seem to work now, they are very slow and the screen flashes, or rather strobes, several times before the operation is complete. What might be causing that?

You observed it well. The cause is that game saves/loads in multiple short segments. And whole concept with RAM swap is slow. Flashing is rather fading - what is added to inform player about hard disk access from game.  If you want faster saves use HAGA statesaves - it works.
I could add some extra cashing for faster ingame saves, but all it already took really lot of time, so try to be patient during those 15 secs. I was that over 3 days  :)

If that's the case, I'll be using the "HAGA" saves. I should be playing through tomorrow. These 1st four King's Quest games have been life long favorites for me. I normally play through on my Tandy computer.

Played through 100% using "HAGA" save states. Worked well. The game acted a little funny after saving this way. It would make the chime noise when loading a new screen here and there, but besides for one time I had to reboot the Mega STe because a restored state kept crashing, it worked well overall. Thanks
