Title: cover (advert) pictures
Post by: Official Ninja on 27-10-2013, 14:06:58
Hello.
I've been trying many of the recently converted games. Say, from about Rampart up...
On my USA STe TOS1.62 4mb most of the cover (advert) pictures do not display properly at startup.
The picture is simply all messed up.
Yolanda, Vampire Empire, Ninja Siprit.... to name a few.

The games do play fine though. Great work.

Is your monitor capable to display at 50Hz refresh rate ? Because overscan can work only at 50Hz.
I think that problem may be because US STE models have some clock frequencies little different.
Can you post some photo of error ?  So, I can post you couple launchers with little different timings, what would help to see what is good for US STE machines. It seems that problem is with vertical resolution of 240 lines.

I made test versions with 5 different timings .  Please run all 5: BEAHAT1.TOS - BEAHAT5.TOS, and tell me which worked OK. Probably 2 will be good.   http://atari.8bitchip.info/BEAMT.ZIP

Anyone with US (NTSC) ST, STE who will spend 15 minutes of his life to help resolving this problem ?

SW for accurate CPU speed test: http://atari.8bitchip.info/MECPC.ZIP

Should get around 36320. Please write result and machine type -  only for ST, STE, Mega ST(E). - TOS version, PAL or NTSC .

A-test: 36318
B-test: 36319 (reset machine)
C-test: E36318 ( if escape and repeat test without reboot adding a (E) in front score..)

Thanx Anemos.
I made some updates for better displaying on ST machines. If you can test on your 1040 STF :  Beam and Great Giana Sisters . Both are updated, so please DL them again.

There are floppy versions in Atari ST Game Archive .

I would like to hear about possible, likely small errors in displaying - screenshot would be best.  Conversions are made for warm wake-up state, so if see some bad dots try with turning off ST for short, and running again.

GGSFH : cant write disk with FloImg prog.. dunno why

Only HiColor cover pic displaying is what I'm looking for this time .
In case of BEAM likely problem is floppy reliability - try with some other disk.
Window Wizard - good displaying.
GGS - you need to manually correct image parameters to 9 sectors/track, 80 tracks and 2 sides before writing to floppy. It is my mistake that I did not upload it as MSA image - now I did it - what means that you can DL it again, then no need for manual correction. Thanx for your help.
P.S. - DL it again , because what you DL-ed is version without cover pics .  I'm getting senile  :(

you right for the disk.. now i use original 720K FDD (and not 1.44 HD with closed the right hole..).
The games run well  playable fine, screen cover looks like has some multicolor sprites on GGS  sprites and a line down for the Beam
Not spites for game Window Wizard.

Good screenshots Anemos. Those bad pixels are because your STE was in so called 'cold wake up state' . Therefore I proposed to turn off machine for short (10 sec), and repeat test if it appears.   And errors are exactly same as in Steem - what confirms that regular Steem 3.2 emulates it accurately.  If you get Steem SSE, then may set there wake up states. and see differences.
So, now we need to see some ST(F) screenshots yet. My Mega ST is acting strange in later time, and can not serve as test platform until I fix problems. Especially test on some NTSC machine is wanted. Come-on US, Canada folks   :D
